My Story

Dianna-Huff Hi, I’m Dianna Huff, author of Cash Flow for Freelancers.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in my 19 years of business is managing my variable cash flow. Up and down, up and down. No matter how much money I made, I was always struggling to make ends meet.

For a long time (too long), I thought I was stupid when it came to money. I bought into the (mistaken) idea that I didn’t know how to manage my money because I was a writer and a woman, not a numbers person.

One day, it dawned on me one reason for my constant struggle was I had spent years listening to advice from financial planners and reading dozens of personal finance books.

The problem? Standard financial advice doesn’t apply when it comes to managing the freelancer cash flow.

Take that “save 10%” advice. Sure, it sounds good. But how are you supposed to save if you’re barely breaking even — that’s if you even know how much money you need to break even (and before I began this process, I sure as hell didn’t know).

And what happens when you need that 10% to float your business and your life while waiting for cash to come in from late paying clients or when you have a low income month?

Once I came to this realization, I ditched all the finance and prosperity gurus and books. I rolled up my sleeves and began analyzing my cash flow, my projects, how I worked and how I invoiced, and most important, where all my money was going. Slowly, things started to change — for the better.

I created Cash Flow to provide real value

You may be wondering if paying $49 for this guide will help you and what results you can expect.

I understand.

Over the years I’ve purchased a ton of programs about how to increase my income — some costing hundreds of dollars.

What I learned is that many of these programs came with lots of “woo woo” advice but very little in the way of how to manage my variable income.

Cash Flow for Freelancers is different because it’s filled with practical advice on how to understand and manage your variable income — and then make important financial decisions based on how you want to live.

Even though my income is still variable, I now live life in a whole new way. Whereas before I was constantly panic driven and anxious, today I’m much happier and now have peace with regard to money. Using the process outlined in this guide, I’ve achieved the following:

  • Have made real progress in smoothing out my cash flow — using various strategies such as changing my business model, how I invoice, and documenting my processes so that I’m more efficient
  • Reduced my monthly expenses by 20% — without depriving myself
  • Continued my debt reduction — In the last year, I’ve paid off multiple loans and credit cards
  • Gained financial clarity — in my business and my personal life

Even better, I’ve learned the importance of spending money mindfully and with intention — and in the process, I now live a much happier life with a lot less stuff. Now that I’m here, I never want to go back.

Why I wrote this guide

Writing this guide was a huge leap of faith for me. The entire time I worked on it, all I could hear was that “voice” (you know the one) that kept saying, “Who are you to tell people how to manage their finances?”

But each day before I started writing, I would pray and ask God to help me clearly communicate the ideas that needed to be shared.

I wrote Cash Flow for Freelancers because I know what it’s like to live on the edge financially. I know the anxiety of lying awake at night worrying about bills and whether or not work and money will come in. I know, too, the self-doubt, the setbacks and the asking of yourself if you should simply give up and get a 9-5 job.

I wrote Cash Flow because I wanted to present tested, practical strategies without a lot of the “woo woo,” tired advice, and over-hyped promises you see everywhere else.

I wrote Cash Flow because I’ve talked to so many freelancers over the years… and once people began to trust me, I’d hear their stories — the ups and downs, the doubts, and the challenges. People shared their joys, successes, and dreams.

We each have our own reasons for being out on our own, but the main one is because we want a better life for ourselves and our families.

I want to help you achieve your dreams and goals. I truly believe that the process I’ve outlined in Cash Flow can help you see your business and your finances from a new perspective… and give you the confidence you need to create a business that sustains you spiritually, intellectually, and financially.
